Protecting South Gippsland’s native biodiversity is a shared responsibility. The plan relies on the collective and individual actions of regional stakeholders, businesses, and individuals who live and work in the region as well as those who visit. Here is how you can be part of it.
As an individual
Most of South Gippsland’s remaining native vegetation (77%) is on private land, so what happens on farms and bush blocks matters. You can:
- Join your local Landcare group – connect with neighbours and experts and take action in your area. Find a Landcare group
- Become an SGLN member and support Landcare across South Gippsland. Membership
- Look after habitat on your land – fence remnant vegetation and waterways, revegetate with local species, control weeds and pest animals, and consider permanent protection such as a conservation covenant.
- Record what you see – add your sightings of plants, animals and fungi to South Gippsland’s Living World on iNaturalist. Better records, especially on private land, help fill the data gaps the plan identifies.
- Come to an event – field days, workshops and forums are listed on the SGLN events calendar.
As a Landcare group
- Use the plan’s Strategic Directions, objectives and actions to shape your group’s projects and priorities.
- Refer to the plan in funding applications to show how your project contributes to regional biodiversity outcomes.
- Talk to SGLN about how your group’s projects can contribute to the plan. Landcare group resources
As a stakeholder
The plan is delivered by a key stakeholder group of organisations and agencies that manage natural areas and protect biodiversity across South Gippsland, coordinated by SGLN through the BPP Implementation Committee. If your organisation manages land or influences biodiversity outcomes in the region, contact SGLN to talk about working together on the plan.
As a potential partner
Delivering the plan will require significantly more funding for on-ground work than is currently dedicated to biodiversity conservation, along with research partnerships and innovative ideas. Businesses, researchers, funders and community organisations interested in partnering on projects are encouraged to get in touch with SGLN.
As a donor
Donations to the South Gippsland Landcare Fund support on-ground conservation and community programs across the region.
