Fungi

  • 13species of fungi listed in the Victorian Biodiversity Atlas
  • 4considered threatened

South Gippsland’s high rainfall and varied landscapes support a diversity of fungi and micro-organisms that are essential for healthy ecosystems, including agriculture.

Thirteen species of fungi are listed in the VBA, of which four are considered threatened. One of these – the two-toned vibrissea – is a pin-shaped species found only in wet forest, and associated with wood located in running water. Many more have been identified via other sources such as iNaturalist indicating that there is still much to learn about these important organisms.

Actions in the plan

The BPP’s objectives, actions and measures are organised under nine Strategic Directions rather than by species group. Actions for threatened species sit under Strategic Direction 5: Take informed, targeted action for priority threatened species, and actions to protect, enhance and connect habitat under Strategic Directions 1, 2 and 3.
